Emotional moments: After 498 horrific days, Alexander Troufanov, a survivor of Palestinian Islamic Jihad captivity in Gaza, is reunited with his mother and girlfriend in Israel. Alexander’s mother, Yelena, his grandmother, Irena Tati, and his girlfriend, Sapir Cohen were also kidnapped on October 7th, 2023, but were released in the November 2023 hostage-ceasefire deal. His homecoming is bittersweet—his father, Vitaly, was murdered by Hamas terrorists on October 7, 2023.

btw now is the best time to keep boycotting. the israeli economy has never been weaker. don't stop the protests or the demands for divestment. keep supporting organisations like the Hind Rajab Foundation and the Accountability Archive. ofc don't stop boosting and donating to Palestinians as Gaza is still uninhabitable.
enjoy this moment but the work has not ended

"The deal, coming after weeks of painstaking negotiations in the Qatari capital, promises the release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas in phases, the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israel and would allow hundreds of thousands of people displaced in Gaza to return to what remains of their homes. It also would flood badly needed humanitarian aid into a territory ravaged by 15 months of war."

Imagine being forced to choose between feeding your starving children or putting a roof over their heads.

Images: Hossam Al-Qazzaz and his family live atop the ruins of their beloved home in Gaza, which was destroyed by the conflict.

Written by @visionsofaselfmademan (new blog @rumiandroses )
This is cruel reality for the Al-Qazzaz family in Gaza: Hossam, his wife Hanan, their four young children (Bashar, age 9; Hani, age 8; Diana, age 4; and Habiba, just 4 months old), and Hossam’s elderly parents (both in their seventies, one of whom was badly burned and requires constant care). Their lives were forever changed when their home was destroyed by war. Now, they live amidst the rubble of their former life, sheltered only by a flimsy tent that fails to protect them from roaming wild animals and the ever-present threat of violence. The winter rains soak their makeshift shelter, leaving them all cold and vulnerable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Images: (Left) Baby Habiba cries from hunger, as the family cannot afford milk or even disposable diapers. (Right) Little Bashar has been bitten by rats that invaded the family's tent in the night.
The Al-Qazzaz family once dreamed of escaping Gaza to rebuild their lives in safety, but the costs of evacuation—estimated at €5,000 per person—are insurmountable. So far, their GoFundMe fundraiser hasn't raised even enough to get one of them to safety, let alone all eight.
Realizing that escape was out of reach for the moment, they shifted their focus to building a modest room amidst the ruins of their home. But even that small hope has proven unattainable. With donations coming in too slowly to make any substantial change to their living situation, and prices for food and basic necessities skyrocketing to astronomical heights, the donations to their GoFundMe campaign must now go toward survival, leaving no resources for rebuilding or dreaming of a safer future.
My name is Bethany Grace. (Though some of you might also know me as "Liam.") I am the founder of The Gaza Giving Tree. I have encountered so many amazing people since I began this project, but the Al-Qazzaz family's humility and selflessness, despite overwhelming hardship, have earned my deepest respect. They ask for nothing beyond the bare essentials—food, shelter, and safety for their children.
This second campaign was not their idea (though I DID get their blessing to create it!). This precious family was fully prepared to patiently struggle on their own, and use their GoFundMe donations to merely survive.
NO FAMILY should have to endure this. NO PARENT should have to decide between feeding their child or giving them a safe place to sleep. The Al-Qazzaz family deserves more than this relentless struggle for survival. They deserve a chance to rebuild their lives, to live with dignity, and to dream of a future free from fear.
That’s why I have created a separate Chuffed campaign for them, dedicated solely to raising enough money to either help them evacuate to safety, or rebuild a secure home. This gives the Al-Qazzaz family a designated fund to help save for their future, while allowing them to continue to survive on the GoFundMe campaign in the interim.
Every donation, no matter how small, moves the Al-Qazzaz family closer to the stability and peace they so desperately need. If you cannot donate, sharing their story can make an enormous difference, as it can help their story reach people who can assist financially.
Let’s show the Al-Qazzaz family that they are not alone in their struggle. Let’s give them the chance to dream, to rebuild, and to live with the dignity that EVERY HUMAN BEING DESERVES.
Thank you for reading, caring, and keeping their voices alive. Together, we can make a difference.
You can donate to the Al-Qazzaz family's Chuffed campaign [HERE].
You can also donate to the Al-Quzzaz family's original GoFundMe campaign [HERE].

Rafah crossing will open tomorrow to allow patients and the wounded to receive medical treatment. Finally, a chance for those in need of urgent care, but not everyone has an easy way out.
Islam has been asking for help since the beginning of the war. He and his family have been living in a tent, enduring the freezing cold of winter and the unbearable heat of summer, with barely any aid reaching them. Imagine surviving for months without a roof over your head, without enough food, without a job or any source of income.
And now, things have gotten even worse.. His mother has cancer. They don’t have access to proper medical care. No hospital. No treatment. And he has no money to even try to save her.
If there was ever a time to donate, it’s now. Every dollar, every contribution makes a difference. Help Islam save his mother.

FINE, I'm going to say it.
No matter how good the hostages look, no matter if they stood on their own, that we cannot see marks on the skin, we cannot know the length of the damage until they leave survival mode. The human body can endure immanence damage for long period of time as long as they are in a situation the mind marks as dangerous.
Only when people reach a safe place things starts to collapse as the body knows it is possible to let go. This is one of the reasons shock is dangerous- your own body is hiding the effect of the damage thank to Adrenalin and repression.
The moment they crossed the border home the clock started ticking to the inevitable moment the physical recertifications will catch up with them.
We are not the medical teams, and if you have fucking dignity you will not stalk them for further information, so we can never know how bad the situation is.

The IDF releases videos showing released hostage soldiers Karina Ariev, 20, Daniella Gilboa, 20, Naama Levy, 20, and Liri Albag, 19, reuniting with their parents a short time ago at an IDF facility near the Gaza border.
They were reunited shortly after they were released from 477 days in Hamas captivity, as part of the first stage of a ceasefire deal with the Palestinian terror group.
Videos show released hostage soldiers Karina Ariev, Daniella Gilboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag meeting their parents at an IDF facility near the Gaza border after 477 days in Hamas captivity.
Ariev runs into her parents’ arms, as her mother says, “You came back, our darling, you came back.”
Another clip shows her on a video call with other family members.
Gilboa, showered and changed out of the mock IDF uniforms in which Hamas dressed the hostages for their release, shrieks with joy as she too runs to hug her mother and father.
“Mom, you’re a lioness,” she tells her mother through her tears.
Previously freed hostages have said they saw news footage of their families protesting for their release during their captivity in Gaza.
Levy’s mother, Dr. Ayelet Levy Shachar, who has also been a vocal advocate for her daughter over the past 15 months, is seen throwing her bag aside as her daughter runs through the hallway of the facility toward her parents.
“I’ll take care of you, everything will be okay,” her father can be heard saying gently in his daughter’s ear as they hug.
Albag is seen making a heart shape for the camera with her hands as she is led by IDF officers through the military facility to meet her parents.
“Liri, baby!” her father shouts joyfully as the 19-year-old jumps into a warm embrace with both of her parents.
“That’s it, you’re home, you’re home,” Albag’s mother comforts her daughter as she sobs.
“I love you, all of the citizens of Israel, who supported our families and to the IDF who did everything for us,” Liri says to the camera.

There are campaigns that attract a lot of attention and receive significant donations and I feel happy for them knowing they've reached or are close to reaching their goal
But unfortunately there are many forgotten campaigns that no matter how much they try to share their story don’t get enough attention and it’s our duty to support them because they truly need help
Islam started his campaign in July and until now he hasn’t even raised 4000 euros in total despite his father his cancer-stricken mother his younger sisters his brother and his grandfather with a physical disability caused by previous bombing all depend on this
He desperately needs our support right now to raise enough money for his mother’s treatment before cancer progresses any further
Please pay attention to Islam’s campaign and donate as sometimes he receives as little as 5 euros in an entire week

Official confirmed: Israel got The List.
In the next few days, we'll find out how many survived. And how many families will have to say Kadish.
Apperently, Arbel would be released by Thursday, alongside 2 other kidnapped (current assumptions are Agam Berger and Keith Segal.)
And there will be another exchange on Saturday, of another 3 kidnapped.
As part of the agreements, residents could come back to northern Gaza tomorrow morning.
On a less optimistic note:
We don't have any official information about the Bibas kids or their mother.
HAMAS has claimed, months ago, that they were killed. But Hamas also claimed other people are dead. Like Danielle- and she had been released last Saturday, so this is all unclear.

A ceasefire and hostage release deal has been reached in the Israel-Hamas War.
"The ceasefire deal will be implemented in three phases over several weeks.
Biden, who described the talks as "one of the toughest negotiations" he's ever experienced, said the agreement's first phase will take more than six weeks as Hamas releases hostages, including women, elderly and the wounded.
That first phase would also see the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody and the repopulation of certain areas of Gaza. Hundreds of trucks of humanitarian aid would also be sent into Gaza daily during this time.
"During the next six weeks, Israel will negotiate the necessary arrangements to get phase two, which is a permanent end of the war," Biden said.
Biden vowed that even if the negotiations for a permanent end take longer than a month-and-a-half, both parties would hold to a ceasefire with leaders in the Middle East committed to keep those negotiations moving forward.
Phase two would include an exchange of remaining living hostages, including male soldiers. Remaining Israeli forces would be withdrawn from Gaza, Biden said. Earlier, documents released by a senior Hamas officials said that Israeli troops would withdraw to Gaza's "perimeter."
During phase three, the remains of deceased hostages would be returned home and reconstruction plans for Gaza would begin." - source link

First Testimonies from Captivity: Sagui, Yair, and Sasha Return After Nearly 500 Days in Gaza
Sagui Dekel-Chen and Yair Horn were held captive together in recent days, along with other hostages. Sasha Troponov, however, was held alone for nearly 500 days.
Throughout their captivity, all three were kept in Khan Yunis—just a few hundred meters from Kibbutz Nir Oz.
They were held in tunnels but were recently transferred to apartments and even taken outside.
At the beginning of their captivity, the hostages were treated violently. At this stage, it is unclear whether they had any access to outside communication.
Hamas terrorists informed Sagui that his daughter was born while he was in captivity. In a cynical gesture, they gave him earrings for his wife, Avital. He asked IDF representatives if it was true, as he didn’t believe them—when they confirmed it, he was overjoyed and deeply moved.
Sagui was wounded in his right shoulder on October 7. When he first met soldiers who wanted to treat him after his release, he told them, "Forget about it, the most important thing is that I finally get to see my family."
Yair knew that his brother, Eitan, was also in captivity. He said they were together in a tunnel at the beginning, and that Eitan had been wounded in his leg. He asked IDF representatives, "When will they get my brother out of captivity?"
Sasha was informed by IDF forces that his father, Vitaly, was murdered on October 7. He broke down in tears.
The three emerged from captivity hungry, although they appeared in better condition than the three hostages released last week. Sasha requested food immediately after being freed.
Once again, the hostages were released with “gifts” from Hamas and Islamic Jihad: release certificates and medals.
After a year and four months, all three have learned to speak Arabic.
During his release, Hamas gave Yair Horn an hourglass containing a picture of Einav Zangauker and her son Matan. Despite the tasteless nature of the "gift," security officials intend to pass the hourglass to Einav, who will decide what to do with the item given to her by these despicable terrorists.

Make no mistake, the Palestinian resistance caused this. Just hours ago, they announced a successful operation against the IDF
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Its operations like these that has made it difficult for the IDF to conduct a genocide in Gaza
Tumblr media
Of course the biggest credit goes to the people of Northern Gaza who steadfastly refused for 16 months to let their land get colonised

Something I think people don't understand, particularly in the wake of the ceasefire, is that the general Israeli public really does want peace.
Bibi has been dropping bombs left and right and the general Israeli response has been "what the fuck are you doing".
In-depth talk under the cut.
Hostages were killed in tunnels because of Netanyahu's gross irresponsibility and refusal to make a hostage deal. The Israeli response was to protest outside his house.
Tumblr media
Particularly notable was a protester saying that since Oct 7, there has been a “devastating abandonment of our communities by our government" and that "nobody in our government takes responsibility.”
Not too long after, Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant tried to keep Netanyahu from going full scorched earth on Gaza. Netanyahu fired him so he could keep going "bombs away" on Gaza. The Israeli response?
Tumblr media
One protester said, "As if a huge massacre in Gaza can compensate the awful massacre that we had in Israel. I cannot accept it."
Israelis are currently celebrating the ceasefire deal and return of hostages.
Are there a lot of right wing Bibi supporters in Israel? yes. Should they be representative of the entire Israeli population? No. No more than Trump supporters should be representative of the American population.
In the wake of a horrible war, we need to remember that usually, no matter the country, citizens want peace. Governments want war. NEVER forget that.

Video: Hossam Al-Qazzaz has recently given us a glimpse of a day in the life of his family through a video he sent to us, featuring his infant daughter Habiba, son Bashar, and other daughter Diana. Despite their living conditions, Hossam does his best to keep his children's spirits high.
@hanon-qazaz
Story written by @rumiandroses
Imagine being born into a world where the first sounds you hear are explosions, the hum of drones, and the cries of your family fleeing for their lives. This is the reality for Habiba Al-Qazzaz, a precious baby girl who has known nothing but war, displacement, and hunger in her short life. Born in Gaza amidst the ongoing conflict that began on October 7, 2023, Habiba has spent much of her existence so far in uncertainty, hunger, and fear.
This precious little girl is not even a year old, and already, she has suffered through unimaginable hardship.
Her parents, Hossam and Hanan Al-Qazzaz, are doing everything they can to care for Habiba and her three siblings—Bashar (9), Hani (8), and Diana (4). But the relentless devastation of Gaza’s infrastructure has made survival nearly impossible. With no stable income and essential supplies priced beyond reach, the Al-Qazzaz family is fighting a daily battle just to keep their children warm, fed, and safe.
Their GoFundMe campaign has been their only lifeline, allowing them to afford the most basic necessities—food, water, milk for Habiba. Yet despite the thousands of people who have seen and shared their plea, donations have been coming in at a painfully slow pace. Since last year, they have managed to raise only €2,000, an amount tragically short of their €55,000 goal—the sum they had hoped would allow them to evacuate to Egypt with Hossam’s elderly parents and start anew.
Forced to Live on Top of Rubble
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Images: (Top) Bashar, Hani, and Diana, still able to smile in spite of the devastation they've been forced to endure. (Bottom) Hossam Al-Qazzaz, as he does his best to clear their destroyed home of debris to make it slightly more suitable for habitation.
As time passed and donations fell short, the family was forced to abandon their dreams of escape. Instead, they now live atop the ruins of their destroyed home, sheltered only by a fragile tent that does little to protect them from the cold, roaming animals, or the ever-present danger of violence. Their reality is bleak, and their options are running out.
On February 8, 2025, Hanan reached out to us with an update on her family's condition:
Tumblr media
Image: Hanan's update message to us, informing us of her family's current condition.
The freezing temperatures persist. Her children are crying for warmth in a shelter that provides no protection from the elements.
This is Not a Call for Comfort—It’s a Plea for Survival!
The Al-Qazzaz family is NOT asking for luxuries. They are asking for the bare minimum:
🧤🧣Warmth for their children.
🍞💧 Food and clean water.
🏠🚪A secure shelter.
With further violence looming, the time to act is NOW.
How You Can Help
🔹 Donate to the Al-Qazzaz Family’s GoFundMe to help provide food, warmth, and shelter for Habiba and her family. Every contribution—no matter how small—makes an impact. [DONATE HERE] 🍞💧🍼🧦🧣🧤🏥
🔹 Support the Chuffed Campaign created by our founder, Bethany-Grace, as an additional fundraiser to help the family rebuild their lives. This ensures they don’t have to choose between saving money for the future and feeding their children today. [DONATE HERE] 🌱🏠🛫🕊️
🔹 If you cannot donate, PLEASE share this post. The more people see their story, the greater the chance of reaching someone who can help. EVERY like, share, and repost helps.
The Al-Qazzaz family’s campaign has been vetted by @gazavetters and is #287 on their list of verified campaigns.
A Family of Resilience and Kindness
Hossam Al-Qazzaz is also the cousin of Falestine Asad, another courageous individual struggling to keep her infant child safe in war-torn Gaza. Both Hossam and Falestine are some of the kindest and humblest people you will ever meet. If you can, we encourage you to view and share both of their campaigns, and to donate if possible.
Together, we can help the Al-Qazzaz family find the security, warmth, and stability they so desperately need.
Tumblr media
No child should have to suffer like these poor babies have.
Let’s all be part of the reason they make it through another day, and into a brighter, more peaceful future. 🙏🏻🕊️💗
